Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 10, 2026
Introduction
MotoNav ("we," "our," or "us") operates the MotoNav mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the App. By downloading or using MotoNav, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information We Collect
Location and GPS Data
MotoNav is a motorcycle navigation app and requires access to your device's location services to function. When you grant location permission, we collect real-time GPS coordinates to provide turn-by-turn navigation. Unless you turn on location sharing with friends (below), location data is used only while you are actively using the App, depending on your device settings.
Friends and Location Sharing
If you sign in, you can add other MotoNav riders as friends by the email address they use for their account. A friend request must be accepted by the other rider before either of you can see the other. Riders can only be found by their exact email — there is no directory or search.
Location sharing is off until you turn it on. When it is on, MotoNav sends your latest position (coordinates, heading, and speed) to our servers every few seconds while you are moving and every couple of minutes while you are stopped, including while the App is in the background or not running, and shows it to the friends who have accepted you. We keep only your most recent position, not a history. Turning sharing off marks you offline immediately, and removing a friend stops you seeing each other. Sharing all the time requires the “Always” location permission on your device.
Account Information
Accounts are optional. If you create one, we collect your email address and the display name you choose. Accounts use email and password only — we do not use third-party sign-in providers.
Favorites, Recents, and Settings
If you sign in, we store your favorite places, recent destinations, and navigation settings so they back up and sync across your devices. Each entry may include a place name, coordinates, and a timestamp. Routes you save — planned on our website or imported in the app — are stored with your account so they sync between the app and the website; routes you only preview or download as GPX are processed in your browser and never stored.
Device and Usage Information
Our website uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use it — pages viewed, general region, and how you found us. This measures the site in aggregate; we do not use it for advertising and it does not follow you across other apps or sites.
The App uses Firebase Analytics to measure feature usage in aggregate — for example, how often navigation is started or a route is saved. These events never include your GPS location, your routes, or the places you navigate to, and we do not use them for advertising.
We automatically collect certain technical information, including device model, operating system version, app version, crash logs, and general usage patterns (such as which features you use most). This data is collected in aggregate and is used to improve App performance and stability.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide real-time motorcycle navigation and route planning
- Back up and sync your favorites, recents, and settings
- Display maps, points of interest, and road conditions
- Send you important service updates and support communications
- Analyze usage trends to improve features and fix bugs
- Ensure the security and integrity of our services
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share data in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: We work with third-party services for mapping, hosting, analytics, and crash reporting. These providers only access data necessary to perform their functions and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of MotoNav, our users, or the public.
Map and Navigation Data
MotoNav uses third-party mapping services to provide maps and navigation. When you use navigation features, your location data may be sent to these mapping providers to generate routes and display map tiles. These providers have their own privacy policies governing their use of data.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers and protected using industry-standard encryption and security practices. We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. While we take reasonable precautions, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Rights and Choices
- Location Access: You can disable location permissions at any time through your device settings. Note that this will limit the App's core navigation functionality.
- Location Sharing: You can turn sharing off, remove a friend, or decline a request at any time in the App's Friends screen. Deleting your account removes your shared position and all of your friendships.
- Account Deletion: You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us. We will process your request in accordance with applicable law.
- Data Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Corrections: You may update or correct your account information at any time within the App.
Children's Privacy
MotoNav is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such data, we will promptly delete it.
International Users
If you use MotoNav from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries. By using the App, you consent to this transfer.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
